With spring break just around the corner, you might be looking for last-minute ideas or help finalizing the details. I’ve compiled a list of my top 7 spring break suggestions, complete with detailed itineraries! These trips are set up for families with kids of different ages and can be easily modified for a shorter or longer trip too. I’ve included a little something for everyone, from ski trips, to the desert, to National Parks, and the beach. I did skip bigger, international trips due to the length of the break, jet lag, etc…I’d recommend saving those trips for a longer break. Take a look, and let me know what you decide to do!

- If you want to get away to the desert, visit Palm Springs, CA…click here for the detailed 4-day itinerary!
Palm Springs has a little something for everyone, and since the weather is almost always nice (although hot in summer!), it’s a great destination for a little getaway for spring break Just a 2-hour drive from Los Angeles and a 4-hour drive from Phoenix, this itinerary contains 4 days worth of activities, including everything from hikes, to golf, to shopping, and a ride up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in to the forest and the snow! And when in the area, you must make the visit to nearby Joshua Tree National Park. We did Palm Springs in March for spring break one year, and were in the snow in the morning and the pool in the afternoon…doesn’t get much better than that!
2. If you want to get away to the ski slopes, visit Park City, UT…click here for the detailed weekend itinerary!
This itinerary is a little unique in that it’s for those that aren’t really in to skiing…it gives some alternatives for things to do while the rest of the group is skiing. Let’s face it, if you are a skier, that’s what you’ll be doing all day! Of course the itinerary includes tips on where to eat and where to stay when you’re done on the slopes, but also includes show shoeing, apres ski, and enjoying the views.
3. If you want to get away to a beach but stay in the U.S., visit San Diego, CA…click here for the detailed 3-day itinerary!
San Diego is such a great option for a getaway, because the weather is very pleasant all year-round…typically in the 70’s for temperatures, with plenty of sunshine. Considered the birthplace of California, and home to 70 miles of the most beautiful beaches on the U.S. West Coast, there’s something for everyone here. This itinerary is a collection of my favorite things to do based on several trips I’ve taken over the years, and includes everything from sandcastle building lessons (so fun!), La Jolla to see the Sea Lions, a tour of the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, and more!
4. If you want to get away to a tropical island without needing a passport, visit Hawaii…click here for a week in Maui, and click here and click here for a week in Oahu and The Big Island!
Hawaii is a must-do at some point, and the weather is pretty much the same year-round here too. I’ve got two suggestions for Hawaii…one is to spend the entire time in the Wailea area of Maui (biking down volcanoes, a day tour along the Road to Hana, helicopter tours, and more!), and the other is to split the week between Honolulu, Oahu and Kona, Hawaii (Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, boogie boarding, black sand beaches, and Volcano National Park!). There’s so much to do, and it’s an excellent place to visit with kids from elementary school age and up. Be sure to plan a little extra time for the jet lag too, depending on where you are coming from.
5. If you want another option for a tropical island without needing a passport, visit San Juan, Puerto Rico…click here for the detailed, week-long itinerary!
Puerto Rico is a hidden gem…I’m not sure why it’s not more popular, but I think it’s a fantastic destination for a family with older kids or teens! Since it’s part of the U.S., there’s no passport required, no currency exchange, and your cell phone works with no extra fees. It has a wonderful mix of history, rich culture, beautiful beaches, and the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. forest system. There’s so much to see and do there, and it’s generally very safe. Just avoid hurricane season (June through November), otherwise the weather is always warm and humid. If you’re looking for a new destination to try for your spring break, check out this week-long itinerary and start planning your vacation now!
6. If you want to get away to a tropical island and do a lot of exploring, visit The Cayman Islands, BWI...click here for the detailed week-long itinerary!
In my opinion, 7 Mile Beach on Grand Cayman Island is THE most beautiful beach (at least of the ones that I have seen), and the Caymans have some of the best snorkeling and SCUBA diving in the world. On top of it’s beauty, the Caymans are also one of the safest places to visit in the Caribbean / Mexico, which makes it a really wonderful destination for families too. We’ve explored the entire island, and tried just about every restaurant and excursion the island has to offer. So if you are looking for a new tropical place to visit where you can explore, let me tell you all about my all-time favorite beach destination!
7. If you want to get away to a tropical island to just relax, visit Providenciales, Turks and Caicos…click here for the detailed 5-day itinerary!
The Turks and Caicos Islands are made up of roughly 40 different islands, located Southeast of the Bahamas Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Providenciales, the most popular of the islands, is known for it’s amazing white sand beaches and turquoise waters…and the beaches do not disappoint! It’s a pretty low-key destination with not a whole lot to do, aside from water activities and the beach (we did snorkeling at a shipwreck, scuba diving, paddle-boarding through the mangroves, and even visited Iguana Island)! I’ve structured this itinerary to be five days like we did, but you could easily stretch it longer by adding more beach days. Of course, I’ve included some great recommendations on where to stay and eat as well!
